Time to Write
Your time, your space.
Your time, your space. These words resonate with me.
When I used to attend yoga classes in the city, I permitted myself a “time out” from life, worries, work, family, to name a few. I remember rushing to a yoga class over the lunch hour to retreat for a much needed forty-five minutes on the mat. Once there, it took me at least fifteen minutes to settle in, with the next fifteen minutes practicing poses, over-analyzing, and judging myself. When I finally relaxed, it was time to leave.
Your time, your space.
These four words keep coming up for me.
Off the yoga mat.
In random articles.
From like-minded friends.
When I heard them aloud again the other day, from a writing workshop facilitator, I perked up. The concept of those four words became part of a routine and my muscle memory.
Now, I apply its meaning to my new-found writing practice. My space may be located on the couch or at my desk, but my time, with my pen and paper is priceless. Plus, I have been getting lost in the words for as long as it pleases me. I’ve granted myself permission to be fully immersed in the space of creativity.
It may not be perfect.
I may not publish a novel for years to come.
My readership may be minimal.
And that’s ok.
What counts is that I can see this for what it is. Not judge it, or myself, because this is truly my time and my space.
How I choose to spend it is entirely up to me.
Nowadays, my yoga practice is more of a stretching routine on my mat for about 10 minutes, but it’s something.
