Such a beautiful, loving post. Sully reminds me of my brother and his family's rescue dog Fanny, who has continued to be tentative and anxious and barky since they adopted her ten years ago, but loving and well-loved at the same time. And she has the best reddish brown freckles!

Reddish brown freckles? That sounds adorable. You'll have to show me a photo sometime.

My Charlie passed two years ago in mid July, and he looked a lot like your Sully. But his mom had been the rescue and she delivered a litter of ten once she got to her foster home. Charlie was a steady and loyal companion and I still expect to see him come to greet me at the door.

This is so heartwarming to read. I miss Rumour, our deerhound cross Lurcher who died last year at the age of 14. She was a beautiful, loving loyal friend. I have 2 remaining rescue lurchers (snoozing next to me as I write). Millie is 10. I fostered her but knew she was here to stay before we arrived home. Rupert is 5. He is complicated and we can only guess what he went through as a pup. I fostered him, worked with him and we kept him. It’s been a hard journey but he has come on leaps and bounds and has a happy safe life with us : walks in the woods everyday, plenty of love.
