Book FOMO
My plan to turn FOMO into JOMO
I love books. I love reading. I love words.
I wish I could spend more time immersed in miles and miles of poems and prose as I travel through paperbacks and hardcovers. But life often gets in the way of such pleasures. I do my best to carve out time to admire the work of other authors while working on my own.
This year, I will focus my reading on as many novels by local authors as possible.
Admittedly, I experience FOMO (Fear of Missing Out) when it comes to books, and my TBR (To-Be-Read) list has become unmanageable. My eclectic taste in genres doesn’t help, I’m sure. Sci-fi doesn’t pique my i
nterest, but with the right review, I’m all in.
There’s a certain thrill in discovering new books, right?
Book Podcasts
My new weakness – is book podcasts, which only add to my overflowing TBR list. See my dilemma?

Book Covers
Don’t get me started on book covers! The curated art, designed to encapsulate all aspects of a story into one image and a few words, is breathtaking and inspiring.
A couple of favourites:
The Crane Husband by Kelly Barnhill
Shark Heart A Love Story by Emily Habeck
A little ear and eye candy never hurt; I’m grateful for the inspiration. Besides, I wouldn’t be where I am if it weren’t for the great work of other creatives.
If a writer starts as a reader, I am in good company with the list in front of me and the books now behind me.
Book Titles
When a story resonates with me and hovers overhead, I feel compelled to give it a title. I can’t move forward without it; it must have a name!
My current project has a working title and a draft cover. It is posted above my computer to remind me of the path forward and guide my progress toward completion.
Here's to many more 5 a.m. Sunday morning book reading sessions with my fur boy.
In parting, I thank the person who brought the next book into my life.
The author’s soothing voice provides timeless life lessons related to love, loss, heartbreak, loneliness, and grief. It is a book I will repeatedly listen to—whether to lift my spirits when life brings me down or to remind myself that life is beautiful.

I love the cover, Holly! What a great reminder to keep going!
Thanks so much! I’m loving the illustrated aesthetic!
